Chicago
Weddings began in 2002 when clearing out my in-laws
residence I found an envelope containing twelve studio portrait
photographs printed or pasted onto local photographers cards
- wedding remembrances given to my husband's grandparents
by friends of their weddings, circa 1910 - 1915.
Although no information
was included on the photos or in the envelope I assume the
couples were all Polish immigrants like the grandparents,
who came to Chicago as teenagers, single, looking for work
and a new life, married young, raised their family and stayed
their whole lives in Chicago, living among others like themselves
- speaking very little English.
Here
are copies of three couples' actual photographs and the pages
from my Chicago Weddings body of work using
Photoshop, printed onto cardstock, machine stitched onto cyanotypes
I've made using lace as block outs and household chemicals
as toners to vary the original blue.
